Our New Family Blog

I have been wanting to host our family photos and goings-on somewhere online, but wasn't sure where. I currently have my blog The Shamrock Stamper where I post all of my cardmaking creations and a teeny bit of scrapbooking. It didn't see like the perfect forum to share The Tales of the House of Sweeney.

Since our log house renovation pretty much dictates our life (Working on it, paying for it, dealing with every little critter without the last name Sweeney that wants to live in it. birds, snakes, bugs, etc.) I thought it would be a great fit for our family blog. Perfect until we sell it!

Currently, we have only sub flooring on the main level, which hosts the kitchen, dining area and great room. The two bedrooms and bathroom on the main level still have their flooring intact. The new engineered hardwood is setting in our one car garage waiting for the drywall to make its appearance. (A little background on the house ~ The guy we bought that house from was an anti-Bob Vila who used gutter nails as a fix-all for virtually any problem. No place to put hangers? Let's up a few gutter nails in the closet. Need some place to hang your bedroom decor. Gutter nails. Get the picture? Not to mention, he took every possible shortcut in the book when building the place.) That said, the main structure consists of round logs except for the great room, which was a later addition using standard wood frame construction and log siding on the interior and exterior. It was my brilliant idea to take down the log siding inside and put up drywall to add more light this huge room.

As Mitch took down the log siding in the great room (the addition), he found that the outside deck light didn't have a box. Just loose wires. Had to fix that. Every electrical box in the room was placed horizontally to fit the log, so he had to redo all of those as well. In addition, Mitch put in wiring for placing a flat panel tv above the fireplace in the future.

This is our to-do list for the next few years:
  • Drywall interior
  • Lay down wood floors
  • Replace shingle roof with metal roof
  • Re-do electrical
  • Re-design kitchen layout
  • Update bathrooms
  • Replace old exterior railing with round log railing
  • Close in the loft and master bedroom
  • Add additional ductwork
  • Update lighting
  • Divide basement living space from mechanical room/laundry area
  • Finish the basement
  • Add a retaining wall and patio area in the front of the house
  • Finish replacing all windows
URG!!!! That list makes me a little dizzy. It will get done in time. Mitch is really the worker bee when it comes to this project. I am the queen bee...I like that. ;)
